We want to protect the children of the future, starting with those in need by providing the basic necessities and education. We believe that supporting children means supporting the world, nature, and the Earth. We have been fortunate enough to support childrens' education throughout Asia in the past decade (Indonesia, Thailand and Nepal).
In Summer 2015 we launched the Fight For Education (FFE) and a collection to fund the program. Within this program, our children will receive direct funding from the sale of our products. 100 Percent of the profit from the Fight For Education Collection will go towards their education.
We have expanded our program to continue helping them to follow their dreams. We will be funding our students who graduated from high school, with first year of Technical School; or first year University fees.
We are proud to highlight the participation and invaluable help we have received from our partner from the very beginning of FFE. Thank you Purnama friends, for always supporting and believing in us so that we can support children's education through our Fight for Education program.

]]>#Convenience is seen as an indispensable dimension of utility in our modern life but this mentality is gradually becoming a ‘Cult of Convenience’. #Sustainability is often forgotten for what is convenient.
I call it the 'Cult of Convenience' because it really presents as a cultural devotion to the ideal of immediately imbuing an almost transcendent value on anything of higher convenience. This blind devotion to convenience being central to progress ignores the fact that convenience is a unidimensional way to value a product or service, or even a way of being.

42% of women reported experiencing gender discrimination at their workplace.
Women earn around 20% less than their male colleagues
23% of women are likely to be considered incompetent because of their gender.
While these numbers are still concerning, in the last few years there has been an upward trend to highlight and reduce the bias and discrimination that women face at work.
In support of the International Women’s Day movement to #BreakTheBias, let’s take a look at how a group of Nepali women artisans overcomes gender bias at their local community level.

Roses are red, violets are blue. Did you know that Valentine's Day is the second-largest card-sending holiday after Christmas?
In the United States alone, approximately 190 million Valentine's Day cards are sent annually, with over US$21.8 billion being spent on Valentine's gifts in 2021. But once we've read the cards, unwrapped all the gifts, and discarded the decorations, they all end up in landfills, creating more non-recyclable waste that harms the environment. So, let's celebrate love for your partner, friend, family, or yourself by finding more sustainable, ethical, and environmentally-friendly Valentine's ideas -- without harming the Earth! --
Gift a plant - not roses!
Approximately 224 million roses are grown specifically for Valentine's Day, yet these roses will eventually die and get discarded. Instead of bouquets, why don't you gift your loved ones a living houseplant - ones that can grow and produce oxygen for your house. Buy fair-trade candies and chocolate Candies and chocolate are classic Valentine's gifts - but do make sure to buy ethically-sourced chocolate from fair-trade merchants that practice safe and fair working conditions for their workers. Make your own cards Instead of buying pre-made cards, channel your creative side and create homemade Valentine's cards for your loved ones. You can also use recyclable paper or reuse existing decorations to make your cards. Not only is it more personal and memorable, but you'll also help save trees! No more wrapping paper! Festive and colorful wrapping paper used to be a staple for gift-giving, but it creates unnecessary waste in landfills because it cannot be recycled. As an alternative, try using eco-friendly recycled kraft paper, or better yet, use a reusable gift bag. Eat locally Treat your loved ones to Valentine's dinner at local restaurants, that uses ingredients produced and grown by local farmers to reduce the carbon footprint of transporting them to your plate. Nothing tastes better than fresh, locally-sourced ingredients! Get sustainable, eco-friendly gifts Now more than ever, there are various options of products that are sustainable, using eco-friendly materials or creating social and environmental impact to choose from. Choose gifts that do good, and help save our environment. |

]]>Many of us might have experienced the so-called “I have a wardrobe full of clothes, but nothing to wear” symptom. We might not realize, but our daily fashion choices contribute significantly to waste and pollution. Globally, the fashion industry is responsible for 10% of total carbon emissions and has greatly polluted the Earth’s water bodies. With the ever-evolving fashion trends and changing consumer behavior, this fast fashion culture promotes unsustainable consumption and waste.
Fret not, WearMe Fashion has compiled together interviews from brands/designers/consumers on how to make your fashion choices a more sustainable one. Check them out to see how we utilized upcycled materials!

Easy Ways to Lead a Sustainable Life
In 2020, a study of 27,000 people shows that while health remains a priority, the environment is also an important issue. As much as 61% of the participants want to lead a more sustainable and healthier lifestyle to reduce their impact on the environment, but only 31% have actually done so.
What can we do to start this sustainable lifestyle, especially during a pandemic? Here are a few easy and affordable ways :
Grow Your Own Garden
Living in the middle of a pandemic can be very stressful, so finding ways to relieve that stress is important. Why not take up gardening? Research shows that being in the garden helps your mental health and emotional well-being, while gardening reduces depression and anxiety as well as increasing life satisfaction and quality of life.
It doesn’t matter if you have a small outdoor space, you can utilize potted plants or indoor plants to practice your gardening skills. Not only will it help you reduce stress, but it will also reduce toxins and dust from the air thus making your home a healthier place.
Reduce Food Waste
Because of lockdown, you may not be able to shop for groceries as frequently or as easily as before the pandemic began, so it’s understandable that you want to stock up more food when shopping. Be careful though; buying more food than what you and your family need may run the risk of increasing food waste. According to FAO, wasting food means the effort and resources that go into producing, transporting, and processing food are also wasted. Not only that, food waste that ends up in landfills produces methane, a greenhouse gas emission that contributes to climate change.
Here are some ways we can reduce food waste :
As a sustainable shopper, we must always be aware of the impact our online purchases create. Here are a few things you can do to lessen the impact :

Fall Internship was limited yet fulfilling with AIESEC Majulah Singapore Program.
Purnama works alongside student volunteers and interns. With the pandemic shutting down the international student volunteer internship program for our long-time student-run partner, the Majulah Program was a successful pivot to local volunteers. Pairing interns in teams really added a deeper teamwork dimension to the educational & work experience for the students.
Education is and always has been our overriding purpose and theme; and we extend that from our core outreach programs to our community work with educational institutions & individual students.
1. Establish a Social Mission
The first step is to establish a social mission that your company and employees align with. It is important to gather support and engagement from the entire company. By creating realistic goals and educating your employees, your organization can take a further step and move towards aligning your core business strategies with your corporate social responsibility goals. This in turn could also make work more meaningful for them when their work is creating an impact on our society.
2. Go Green!
It might be time to evaluate the companies you are getting your supplies from. For instance, Starbucks sources their coffee beans under the C.A.F.E. Practices where about 99% of their coffee beans were ethically sourced. Through this, Starbucks actively contributes to a sustainable network by upskilling farmers, empowering women and families in the tea and cocoa growing communities.
Another example could be as simple as reducing the number of single-use plastics in your manufacturing process or by replacing them with a more sustainable alternative like paper bags. In fact, this is also evident in Starbucks’ practices where strawless lids were introduced with the aim to eliminate single-use plastic straws.
Just recently in July 2019, under Singapore's Plastic ACTion (PACT) initiative to reduce plastic use by 2030, H&M launched the 10 cent charge for plastic bags. Moreover, the proceeds generated will go directly towards funding plastic pollution and conservation projects. From these examples, it is evident that green initiatives both reduce the negative impacts on our environment and contribute to sustainable practices in the local communities through fair trade practices while supporting local conservation initiatives as well.
3. Reduce Waste
The global cosmetic packaging market was valued at USD 25.9 billion in 2018. With the beauty industry touted as one of the biggest contributors to plastic packaging waste, there is a demand for companies to be greener and seek alternative or circular ways to reduce or eliminate the use of single-use plastic packaging from their products.
With a cosmetic consumption of 77 billion euros annually in Europe , there is a growing trend of consumers opting for greener cosmetic products with nature-friendly packaging.1 Sustainable beauty brands like Dab Herb Makeup & Skincare and Clean-Faced Cosmetics, package their products in reusable or compostable containers such as glass or tin containers and many of their products come with refill options. Moreover, unlike typical makeup products, these beauty brands manufacture their cruelty-free products with vegan ingredients sourced from fair trade certified farmers and suppliers.
It is important that retail brands are striving to be more environmentally conscious by incorporating little green steps amidst global climate change. The above are some of the examples your organization can use to start your own journey towards improving your corporate social responsibility. At Purnama, our products are made mostly from upcycled and repurposed materials such as plastic bags and innertube automobile tires as well as other environmentally preferred choices. We also partner with our local artisans and empower women through upskilling programmes. Being mindful of our ecological footprint and social impacts, we always strive to reach toward a zero waste mindset in our production process, and we use our proceeds to directly sponsor local community outreach programs.
